This year has been a remarkable journey for the US stock market. Below are some key highlights:

Key Events and Observations:

  • Early Bullish Sentiment: At the onset of 2025, analyses suggested a potentially positive year for the S&P 500, contingent upon the index maintaining a certain threshold to indicate continued growth.

  • Mid-February Peak: The S&P 500 achieved a record high around February 19, 2025.

  • March Volatility: Leading up to and following the March 21st announcement regarding potential tariffs, the S&P 500 experienced a significant decline.

  • April Stock Market Crash: Between April 2nd and April 10th, 2025, the US stock market underwent a crash, with the S&P 500 experiencing substantial daily declines. However, a notable surge occurred on April 9th, though volatility persisted thereafter.

  • Correction Territory: By mid-April, the S&P 500 remained in correction territory, having fallen more than 10% from its February peak.

  • Recent Winning Streaks: Towards the end of April, the S&P 500 experienced several consecutive days of gains, including a five-day winning streak leading up to April 29th.

Looking ahead, following client reviews in March, I adjusted portfolios when the SPX (S&P 500) dropped to approximately 5400 points. In many accounts, I divested from underperforming securities and reallocated into more stable products suited for volatile environments. Please remember that past performance is not indicative of future results.
